I am enjoying my summer a lot. The Father's Day Bluegrass Festival was a ton of fun and we have several more outings planned, including a week long road trip to Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons.

To the left is one of my latest creations, it's my grandma Dortha fused with her favorite animal. I made it into a t-shirt and wore it on Mother's Day when we all met up to go fishing and boating. None of had ever rowed a boat before so there was a lot of circling going on. We caught zero fish.

Not much else to report...life is good.

Spring is my favorite time of the year...I like when the leaves come out. I am fast approaching the 1 year anniversary of my CD coming out (last May) and I am happy about its many successes (see below). I recently registered it with CD Baby in hopes of getting it on iTunes (CD Baby distributes to them) and I also have it for sale on Amazon, but niether location, as of today, have any reviews about the album. So I was hoping you all might be willing to drop in a bit of feedback in the form of a review? Here's the links:

I am still dreaming of getting one or more of the songs to be recorded by famous people, like for instance, The Bar Fight by the likes of James King. So if you know any famous people who might like my tunes, please hook me up.

The Dawn and Drew Show continues to create interesting connections. Podcasts are still new to a lot of folks and though I have been listening for a while, I am still learning about the culture of podcasting in this new era of sound waves. For instance, depending on the frequency of release of a podcast, it can be difficult to keep up. But since every episode is easily available, there is no need to skip ahead, it's just a matter of catching up over time. Thus I find myself still receiving orders for CDs from people who just heard episode 451 of the Dawn and Drew Show months after it's initial release! Here are a few of the sentiments included with the orders:

"I heard your song on The Dawn and Drew Show and decided to order. Listening to your samples reminded me of the performers I heard as a kid at Silver Dollar City theme park near Branson."

"I heard the "Walkaway" track on the Dawn and Drew show and I must have replayed it 20 times since!  Amazing stuff!  I think why I liked it so much was it reminded me of my times visiting my dad in Georgia each summer and being at his place in the woods, on the porch in his rocking chair listening to the crickets and watching the thunderstorms in the distance and the fireflies...Thanks for the great music!"

"Well I have started passing your link around to my friends. It was kind of the same thing with Matisyahu...not so much bluegrass :) but he took off from the grassroots level. I have a friend who is a managing editor for Cosmo and I will speak with her. I have another friend who has an extremely popular blog and I will have her post up your link as well. I know some other people as well due to my job with Louis Vuitton. We'll see if I can't help ya out..."

Wow! That last one is from a photographer named Brian Weston. I am amazed that my music inspired him to reach out the way he did. Check him out at www.2floor.com

I am still riding a wave of wonderful feedback that continues to roll in, thanks to one and all!

I listen to a lot of PodCasts on my iPod, and one of my favorites is the Dawn & Drew Show. They are a couple, about my age, living on a farm in Wisconsin, and they basically talk about their lives and the people around them, with some pop culture mixed in. They started with not much and have parlayed that into a living sitting around their house discussing just about anything. The number of listeners, as well as their fame, has grown rapidly. When I finished my CD, I sent them a copy hoping they might play a cut...and they did! This led to some CD sales for which I am grateful. Below you will find both an excerpt from the show in which they played "Walkaway" as well as the entire episode. If you like the show, you can learn more about them at dawnanddrew.podshow.com and you can also subscribe to the pod cast via iTunes. They are a bit raunchy, so it's not for everyone (I'm talking to you Mama Dot (my grandma)).

CBA Father's Day Bluegrass Festival
This is my annual vacation that just cannot be missed. The festival is Thursday through Sunday, but my friend Spider and I go on Monday to get started early. You can get a feel for the event by listening to my second PodCast. My first PodCast was done at SuperGrass 2006, see below. A PodCast is nothing more than an .mp3 or other type of sound file that can be downloaded to personal listening device (iPod is the most popular, hence the name) or even just listened to on your desktop PC or MAC. More modern computers will just start paying it after creating a buffer, older computer might need a special download such as Windows Media Player or Quicktime, or whatever. You can also just download it to your computer and listen to it later, or add it to your permanent collection.

CBA's SuperGrass
Last year was the first annual SuperGrass festival held in Bakersfield, California. Its name is a reference to the fact that it occurs during Superbowl weekend, concluding on Superbowl Sunday. It is a great new indoor hotel style festival that everyone seemed to love. I documented everyone's roses and thorns, i.e. favorite and least favorite aspect of the festival in my first ever PodCast.

The creator of this cool new "Frogumentary" was looking for local music to use in the movie, and somehow found Rick Jamison who had already released his "Open Spaces" CD which was chalk full of usable music. We had also just finished wrapping the "Tales from the Canyon" CD which also featured several tunes that were a match. Basically he was looking for instrumentals, and the Tales CD featured "Cornstalk Hornpipe," a tune I had written. I signed the forms granting permission to use the song, and now if you watch the DVD, you will hear one of my original tunes! You will also hear me play mandolin on several of Rick's original tunes throughout the DVD. To learn more about the DVD, and/or to order a copy, click here, or on the graphic to the left...

I did a radio interview for my "day job" that seemed to cover just about everything the Guadalupe River Park & Gardens has to offer. I think it went pretty well, check it out if you want...
